Airlines Offering Cheap Flights in South Africa

Getting around South Africa has never been easier. There are currently four low cost airlines offering cheap flights in South Africa including Kulula.com, 1Time Airlines, Mango Airlines and Velvet Sky Aviation. There are two other airlines offering regular scheduled flights throughout the country in economy, business and first classes.

The low cost airlines offer no-frills prices on flights in South Africa to certain destinations in an effort to make air travel possible for every one. These no-frills flights offer the basic services without additional extras such as complimentary in-flight meals and beverages, apart from Velvet Sky Aviation which does provide complimentary beverages. The airlines do however; offer buy on board meals for passengers travelling on their planes, and with the average flight being around two hours in length, the lack of meals is a small feature to most passengers.

The destinations these airlines fly to are limited to demand for travel by the masses, and therefore most if not all of the airlines do not include flights to smaller destinations such as Kimberley or Upington Airport. These airports are only serviced by the national carrier South African Airways and its subsidiaries SAA Express.

Smaller destinations such as George Airport, the starting point for many Garden Route visitors, Bloemfontein Airport in the Free State Province and East London in the Eastern Cape are serviced only by one or two of the budget airlines alongside South African Airways.

The smaller Lanseria Airport is becoming a popular alternative destination airport for Johannesburg due to it's close proximity to the business hub, is serviced by Kulula.com and Mango Airlines for cheap flight options as well as South African Airways.

All of the four low cost airlines offer regular scheduled flights to Cape Town International Airport, Durban International Airport and Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport. The Cape Town and Durban route is serviced by Kulula.com, 1time Airlines and Mango Airlines. These flights are scheduled during their peak hours seven days a week but are not available as often or as regular as the Cape Town to Johannesburg flights which are scheduled daily from all the airlines with a number of flights available throughout the day.

For passengers flying between Johannesburg and Durban, Velvet Sky Airlines, Kulula.com, 1Time Airlines and Mango Airlines all offer scheduled flights between Durban's King Shaka International Airport and OR Tambo International Airport. Kulula.com also offers cheap flights between Johannesburg's Lanseria Airport and Durban's King Shaka International Airport.

All four of the low cost airlines offering cheap flights in South Africa offer online booking on their individual websites with easy navigation and user friendly search engines. These airlines also offer a number of payment methods for passengers such as e-bucks and electronic transfer payments as well as FNB cell phone banking from Kulula.com and payments at the money market counters at Shoprite and Checkers supermarkets from Mango Airilines, to cater for the travellers without access to the internet.
