Cheap Flights Strategies
The art of finding and booking cheap flights is something everybody speaks about but very few people really understand. Of course you can spend a lot of time in looking for the cheapest option, but still, it will be the cheapest option at exactly this moment in time. Maybe 2 minutes after, an offer will appear and the price will be the half of it during 1 day and then it will get back to the normal.
Does it depend on luck or airlines follow some kind of rules when applying this discounts? Which strategies do they use? There is a person that can explain all this a lot better than myself in his book, it is a person that was fired by the airlines industry and has written an e-book on how to find the best airline tickets.
In any case, there are some very general rules to follow every time you are going to book a flight. 4 golden rules. The first of them is one known by almost everybody, and it tells you that the earliest you book, the cheapest your seat will be.
Any plane has a limited number of seats. The first 10 or 20 seats that get booked will have one price, the cheapest one. After this seats are booked, there is a jump to the next price level. After another definite number of these seats have been filled, the price jumps again, and this process applies until the very end of the available places.
This guides you to be aware of one thing. The price can jump spontaneously from one day to another simply because one single person has book. As soon as you are sure about the flight you want, book it quickly.
On the same idea, it comes the 2nd golden rule, that will apply when doing a booking for more than 1 person. Never book the 2 or more persons at same time. Why? Because when it happens that the first person would get a cheaper price and the second one will already be at the next price level, many airlines make the booking for you both with the high price. Book one by one and you will make sure that you pay the less. Of course, if any airline has group discounts, that rule would not apply.
The third golden rule speaks about the days to book in case your dates are flexible. Friday is the day when all people fly away on holiday. At same time, Sunday is the day when everybody comes back. As this happens from all destinations, the effect makes all airline tickets raise on those days due to the high demand, and even airport taxes can be higher. Concluding, book from Monday to Thursday or on Saturday.
Finally, the last golden rule is the one where the book will be most useful. It happens lots of times that airlines places offers suddenly and a ticket that you booked one day for one price, will have the half of the price the next day and you will get extremely angry with the situation. How to guess when this is going to happen? How to find those great opportunities that sometimes last only for some hours on the screens?
